Plot

Karan Thapar (Bobby Deol) is the son of a wealthy businessman who lives a lonely life and is neglected by his family. One fateful day, he is rescued from a near-death accident by Raj Malhotra (Akshay Kumar), a poor orphan who works as a car mechanic. Karan and Raj become best friends and share everything with each other. Raj is in love with his childhood sweetheart, Anjali (Kareena Kapoor), who works as a teacher in an orphanage. Karan meets Kajal Sharma (Lara Dutta), a London-returned fashion designer, and falls in love with her. Raj and Karan decide to get married to their respective partners on the same day.

However, things take a tragic turn when Raj's father, who had abandoned him as a child, returns to claim his share of his late mother's property. Raj refuses to give up his mother's house, which he considers his only home. His father hires goons to evict him and his friends from the house. In the ensuing fight, Raj is shot and falls into a coma. Karan postpones his wedding to be with his friend. He also learns that Kajal is pregnant with his child. He decides to donate his blood to save Raj's life, but he discovers that he has blood cancer and only has a few days to live. He hides this fact from everyone and asks Kajal to marry him as soon as possible.

Raj recovers from his coma and is overjoyed to see Karan and Kajal married. He also reconciles with his father, who apologizes for his past mistakes. Karan, however, starts to deteriorate and collapses on the day of Raj's wedding with Anjali. He is rushed to the hospital, where he reveals his condition to Raj and Kajal. He asks them to take care of each other and his unborn child. He also gives Raj a letter that he had written for him before his accident, in which he expresses his gratitude for their friendship and brotherhood. He dies in Raj's arms, leaving everyone heartbroken.
